They had the house from mid-June through mid-September if they wanted it. Marco Cohen kept the drugs in the nightstand drawer of the bedroom he shared with Diane del Greco. If Diane del Greco or Simon Magnus suggested taking them, he changed the subject or flatly refused. He did not, however, use the lock on the drawer: their lives were their own, and it was up to them—yes, even or especially the mother of his child—to be honorable. As the vastness of their task confronted Simon Magnus, Marco Cohen, and Ellen Chandler, they had little time to think about anything else, anyway. Diane del Greco, for her part, drove to the beach on most days while the trio worked. (Diane del Greco had rented a car on their arrival in Oceanopolis; of the quartet, only she and Ellen Chandler could drive, while Marco Cohen and Simon Magnus had never learned.)
