Ellen Chandler pulled her car into Diane del Greco’s driveway. Diane del Greco lived in a red-brick house, two stories but otherwise smaller than her own. It stood on a suburban street that had seen what they called better days: half the brown- and red-brick old homes on the block were for sale, with weedy lawns and dark, dusty windows, even as a development of probably million-dollar places, identically fashioned from plastic-looking gray bricks, went up in the lot on top of the hill across the road.
